Rob Armstrong 1990 twin neck guitar and bouzouki

Rob Armstrong of Coventry made this instrument for me around 1990 I think. It was built so that I only had to take one case with me on a "raid", ie. a one-off festival in Europe or USA. I also used it with Jethro Tull because it looked cool.

Mahogany body and two mahogany necks with rosewood fingerboards.

I had Rob strip my Fender Strat for the electrics and hardware for the guitar side.

Key to the rather complicated electrics:

1. OBL humbucker. With electric bouzoukis, it's necessary to use pickups without pole pieces as they would not align properly.
2. The rosewood bridge has an Ashworth piezo transducer in it for an acoustic sound.
3. Roland GK2 hex pickup. I used guitar synth quite a bit for a few years and I had Rob install this to that end. The electric guitar output also came from here.
4. This is where the Roland cable joins the instrument.
5. Normal Fender Strat controls, with a 5 position switch.
6. Neck selector switch - bouzouki/both/guitar.
7. Coil tap switch for the OBL pickup.
8. On/off switch for the piezo.
9. Output for the electric bouzouki, to amp.
10. Output for the bouzouki piezo, to PA.

A couple of badges for decoration...

I use D'Addario EXL110 electric guitar strings and gauge selection 0.012, 0.018, 0.034, 0.044 nickel wound strings on the bouzouki side.
